Giant Finish, third in the Spiral Stakes, will be a starter in Saturday's 139th Kentucky Derby. The addition of the Tony Dutrow-trained colt puts the number entered at 21 moving Fear the Kitten to the also-eligible list.
"I am so surprised at all of this," Dutrow said. "I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see he ran as well as he did (in two Kentucky starts during March). We've kept an eye on him since and have made sure he's had good energy since those races."
Owned by Sunrise Stable and partners, Giant Finish will be ridden by Jose Espinoza in the Run for the Roses and arrive at Churchill Downs Thursday morning from Maryland.
Three weeks before the Spiral Stakes the chestnut 3-year-old was second in the John Battaglia Memorial at Turfway Park. He has two wins in five starts for $133,050.
