— Police charged a 22-year-old man Wednesday with a hit-and-run crash in East Durham that injured two pedestrians Saturday night.

Walter Sunag, 22, of Durham, is charged with felony hit-and-run, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

David Thomas Waller, 53, and Sylvia Humphrey, 54, both of Durham, were walking along the 3200 block of Angier Avenue near Commonwealth Street around 9 p.m. Saturday when a van traveling west on Angier Avenue struck Waller from behind and threw him against Humphrey, Michael reported. The van did not stop.

Waller was hospitalized with critical injuries, while Humphrey was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators later located the dark blue Dodge Caravan that had damage to the right side mirror and window, Michael said.

Sunag remained in custody at the Durham County jail Wednesday in lieu of a $30,000 bail.
