Leslie “Sparky” Simmons

May 4, 2013

Leslie Melton “Sparky” Simmons, 66, of Rolesville, made his graduation to Heaven Thursday evening, May 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Sparky was born in Durham County, the son of the late Ethel Grae Melton Simmons and Clyde Myrover Simmons and was a member of Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church.

Sparky was well known for his love of The Lord. He spread the great word to many that in his life Jesus came first followed by Elaine, the love of his life for 40 years. Also known as Dad and G-Pop, he loved his children and grandchildren, classic cars, Topsail Island, mountain vacations and great coffee. He spent countless hours watching Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and sharing the word with those he came in contact with on a daily basis, usually with a hot cup of coffee or vanilla latte in hand. He prided himself on taking care of those he loved and healthy living. His direct and to the point persona made everyone appreciate him all the more. By leading a positive and spiritually led lifestyle he had a wonderful influence on those with whom he came in contact.

Now our G-Pop is walking with Jesus and loved ones who have gone on before him. He will be deeply missed and his legacy will be carried on until the day we meet again.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2013 at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sparky is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Bailey Simmons; daughter, Sarah Simmons Parker and husband, Carley of Hurdle Mills; sons, Chris Simmons and wife, Crystal, of Louisburg and Andrew Simmons of Rolesville; grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail, Christian, Crissa, Ethan and Gage; his brother, Malcolm Simmons, CWO USCG (ret) and wife, Mary Anne, of Virginia Beach, VA; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of lifetime friends. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elaine Ruby “Laina” Simmons and by his sisters, Helen Franklin, Jacqueline Wiggins and Doris Latta.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, www.jsm.org or Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church, Zebulon, NC.

Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 Saturday evening, May 4, 2013 at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. (919-556-5811)
