Cars collide on both sides of foggy I-440 in Raleigh

— Accidents on both sides of Interstate 440 near Wade Avenue slowed traffic late Monday morning, but no life-threatening injuries were reported.

The first accident happened on the westbound side of I-440 about 10:50 a.m., the state Department of Transportation reported.

While police and fire units were dealing with that accident, another occurred about 20 minutes later on the eastbound side, officials said.

Both were about at Mile Marker 4, DOT said.

Light rain and fog were reported in the area at the time.

By about 1 p.m. Monday, the area was free of accidents, according to traffic monitoring software.
