Charles Herman "Smiley" Pearce

Charles Herman “Smiley” Pearce, 86, passed away at Rex Healthcare on May 6, 2013. Smiley was born June 5, 1926 in Franklin County to the late Furney S. Pearce and Mattie May Pearce. He retired after 34 years as a supervisor with Coca Cola Bottling Company. Smiley was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Youngsville, but attended Temple Baptist Church in Raleigh. On September 6, 1952 Smiley married his “Sugar Babe” Ethel Medlin who was the love of his life.

Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Chapel. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

Surviving: wife of 60 years: Ethel Medlin Pearce; sisters-in-law, Larsetine Pearce of Wendell, Eula Medlin of Raleigh, Frances Pollock of Raleigh, Ruby Medlin of Knightdale; nieces, Faye P. McPhail, Kaye Harding, Vicky Pearce, Annette Dorman, Brenda Gaffeney, Patricia Sneed, Denise Walters, Christie Baucom; nephew, Ricky Cornelius.

In addition to his parents Smiley was preceded in death by his sisters, Vera M. Pearce and Ruth P. Love, his brothers, Wallace, Malcolm and Ovid Pearce, a nephew, Larry Medlin, a niece, Carolyn Holland and his beloved cat, Bo.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
