From staff reportsMay 7, 2013

State DOT workers block eastbound Interstate 40 at Jones Sausage Road after nails spilled in the roadway.

— Police and the state Department of Transportation closed Interstate 40 eastbound at Jones Sausage Road for about 30 minutes Tuesday morning so workers could collect nails that had spilled on the highway.

Traffic began to back up about 9:20 a.m. as workers from NCDOT’s Incident Management Assistance Patrol gathered the nails to prevent damage to vehicle tires and possible accidents, Raleigh police said.

It was unclear what vehicle lost the nails or if the driver stopped.
