RDU shows off progress on Terminal 1 renovations

From staff reportsMay 9, 2013

Raleigh-Durham International Airport officials on Thursday gave a progress report on the renovations to Terminal 1, showing off the work that began last summer.

The new version of Terminal 1 – the smaller, older passenger terminal on the east side of the airport – will be completed by next March.

The terminal will have one concourse with nine gates as well as 10 new shops and restaurants, including a Char-Grill and an Atlantic Coast Conference-themed cafe.

The $68 million in renovation work is centered in the main part of Terminal 1, while two airlines – Southwest and AirTran – operate out of the north end of the terminal. Most airlines at RDU operate out of Terminal 2 on the west side of the airport.
