VA man charged in Raleigh with child sex offense

— Police have charged a 44-year-old Virginia man with three counts of first-degree sex offense and taking indecent liberties with a with a 10-year-old girl between Dec. 1, 2011, and Feb. 15 this year.

Joseph Darin Jenkins of 1004 Santa Maria Drive in Stafford, Va., was being held Friday in lieu of $1 million bail for a court appearance.

According to arrest warrants, police believe Jenkins engaged in a sexual act with the girl.

Authorities in Virginia arrested Jenkins on April 20 based on the warrants that Raleigh police had for him.

After extradition proceedings were finished, Jenkins was returned to Raleigh on Thursday, police said.
