Triangle mail carriers to collect food donations Saturday

From staff reportsMay 10, 2013

— Mail carriers in the Triangle will collect food donations on Saturday as part of their annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

All food collected in the Triangle will go to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

People are asked to simply place bags filled with nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes on Saturday. Examples include peanut butter, canned soup, canned meats and fish, canned vegetables, fruits and juices, boxed goods such as cereal and pasta and rice.

The U.S. Postal Service began its annual food drive 21 years ago and has collected more than a billion pounds of food since then. The drive comes at a critical time for the food bank, when holiday food drive donations are long gone.
