Raleigh boy injured as SUV backing out of garage hits him

— A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle as it backed out of a garage in West Raleigh.

The boy, Richard Doyle of Raleigh, was taken by emergency medical crews to WakeMed, according to a police report.

The driver of the SUV, Joann Clark Norwood, 72, was backing out of her garage on Kaplan Drive and didn’t see the boy behind her SUV in the driveway, police said. No charges are expected to be filed, police reported.
