Divers, dogs search for man who fell into Jordan Lake

From staff reportsMay 13, 2013

— Firefighters in Chatham County assembled five boats, divers and two scent-trained dogs Monday morning to search for a man who went into Jordan Lake on Sunday and did not resurface.

Mark Riggsbee, deputy chief of the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, said crews were scheduled to go out from the Vista Point boat launch at about 8 a.m.

The man for whom they were searching was in his 50s and was tubing behind a boat when he fell into the water about 3 p.m. Sunday, Riggsbee said.

Along with the divers, two dogs that can catch scents rising from the water will be put on two of the boats, Riggsbee said.

“It’s good and still this morning, so we’re hoping they can catch a scent,” Riggsbee said.
