Joseph D. Whisnant: Bill will cost lives

Bill will cost lives

Your May 7 article “House OKs wider gun freedoms” is titled wrong. It should read, “House votes to place guns in the hands of drunks.”

I am sure that proponents of this bill and those that voted for it will receive large contributions from the NRA (read, gun manufacturers). I hope “legislators” understand that their vote will cost lives. People will die because of the fact that killing force was available to them while under the influence of alcohol.

As I read the Second Amendment, nowhere does it suggest placing killing instruments in bars or schools. I was a physician who witnessed gunshot trauma in ERs over a 40-year career. I shudder to think of the kind of state North Carolina will become with this style of leadership.
