Robert Wilbur Howell

Robert Wilbur Howell, died May 13, 2013, was born on March 3, 1942, in Greensburg, PA. His parents were Wilbur and Dorothy (Donaldson) Howell. Mr. Howell spent his young adulthood working at ITE (later called Brown Boveri).

He married Joyce Carey (later divorced), and they had three children, Kristal Howell Dilling, Rebecca Howell, and Melissa Howell Merritt. While his daughters were growing up, he coached softball, practiced his woodworking skills on dollhouses, and helped make Christmas a most special time for his girls. Mr. Howell also had a love of words and authored several children's stories. Mr. Howell left his beloved Greensburg with his family for work in NC in the late 1980's.

He passed away in Durham, NC, having most recently lived in Angier, NC. Mr. Howell is survived by his three daughters, granddaughter Alexa Outlaw Clark, great granddaughter Kayleigh Clark, granddaughter Kasey Outlaw; son-in-law Clint Merritt, granddaughter Samantha Merritt, granddaughter Meghan Merritt, grandson Scott Merritt; sister Margie Howard, brother-in-law Don Howard; sister Kathie Smiley, brother-in-law Jim Smiley; nieces and nephews; and devoted dog Molly.

A private service will be held in Hillsborough, NC. Burial will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC.
