Eagles lose MEAC opener

— N.C. Central, the No. 3 seed in the South Division, could not overcome a two-run deficit in the late innings despite 10 hits, falling 5-4 to the North Division No. 2 seed Norfolk State Wednesday in opening round of the MEAC baseball championships at Marty Miller Field in Norfolk, Va.

Down 5-3 entering the ninth, N.C. Central loaded the bases with one out, but managed to plate just one run to fall in the contest 5-4.

Glenn Frye (5-4) took the loss for the Eagles going seven innings, surrendering seven hits, four earned runs with four walks with five strikeouts. Chris Horne (5-5) earned the victory giving up seven hits and one earned run with no walks and two strikeouts over seven innings.

Troy Marrow led the Eagles with two hits and two RBIs. Dylan Drayton also tallied a pair of hits.

N.C. Central faces Maryland Eastern Shore Thursday at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.
