Chuck Galle: Cartoon’s message wrong

May 16, 2013

Wrong message

I’m dismayed at the apparent message of the May 15 political cartoon. Is Joel Pett suggesting that the IRS is justified in harassing right-wing political organizations because they are against taxes, high taxes, paying taxes? Is such a stance (or any thought, belief or idea) really fair game to be subjected to the might of government to curtail and intimidate the activities of those who hold them?

Would you have published such a cartoon if the protesters had been “Moral Monday” members? Or Quakers? The message seems to be “it serves them right!” Not a very American message.
