Betty King Dean

Betty King Dean, 85, of 2701 Wendell Blvd., 64 Business, passed away on May 16, 2013 after many months of declining health. Betty was born in Durham County on July 21, 1927 to the late William Oscar King, Sr. and Adell Dixon King. She graduated from Wakelon High School in 1944 and attended one year at Louisburg Junior College. Upon completion of that year of school, Betty returned to Zebulon to work for Foster Finch. Betty worked for over 50 years at the Bank of Wendell which later became First Union. She was a charter member of the Hoe "N" Hope Garden Club and a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church. Betty was devoted to her husband, the late Miles Amos Dean, Sr., her children, her grandchildren and her extended family and friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Hephzibah Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1794 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, NC 27591.

The Dean family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm in the family life center and other times at the home of her children, Miles, Jr. and Lee, 2680 Wendell Blvd., Wendell and Doris and Wayne, 2740 Wendell Blvd., Wendell.

Burial: Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon

Surviving are: son Miles Amos Dean, Jr. (Lee Dean); daughter Doris Dean Fowler (M. Wayne Fowler); grandchildren Shannon Dean Barbour (Kevin), Brooke Fowler Narron (Charles), Courtney Dean Apple (Stephen), and Ryan Fowler (Della); great-grandchildren Sarah Dean Barbour, Jake Barbour, Edward Apple, Analee Apple, Chloé Fowler, Kyndall Fowler, Hunter Narron, Parker Fowler and Hannah Finch; sisters Pat King Perry (June) of Wendell, Peggy King Tucker of Morehead City; brother Vernon D. King (Betty) of Birmingham, AL; sister-in-law: Rose Y. King of Wendell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Oscar King, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hephzibah Baptist Church Building Fund or the Hoe "N" Hope Garden Club, PO Box 810, Wendell, NC 27591.
