Barbara Jane Perry Finch

Barbara Jane Perry Finch, of Zebulon, died peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church, 4525 Hopkins Chapel Road in Zebulon on Tuesday, May 21 at 4:00 pm, with Rev. Glen Brock, Rev. Earl Roach, and Rev. Keith Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at the Zebulon Town Cemetery. Visitation will be held at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and other times at the home of Franklin Finch, 8208 Cunningham Road, Zebulon.

Born in Franklin County to Larby and Ruth Perry, Barbara attended Bunn High School graduating with honors and served as class president. She continued her studies and graduated from Hardbarger Business College. Barbara worked for 15 years with Job P. Wyatt and Wyatt Quarles Seed as a secretary in Raleigh. She was a homemaker and business account manager for Elmo Finch Farms up until 1990. Barbara worked hard all her life to raise three children and six grandchildren with the love for family, Jesus Christ and the church.

Barbara was an active parent in Wake County Public Schools and received the Outstanding Parent Award of the Year in 1990 from East Wake High School. She was an honorary member of the Wake County EMS in Zebulon and her farm was the official cooking location for many years for their annual fundraising event. Barbara was a member of the Wakefield Zebulon Order of the Eastern Star #133 (now Wendell #95) for over 50 years. She served as a page to the Grand Officer of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Worthy Matron Order of the Eastern Star #133.

Barbara was an active member of Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church in Zebulon where she served faithfully in the following areas; Sunday School Teacher for Young Children, Baptist Young Women Director, Adult Choir, Church Treasurer (49 years), Building Committees, Decorating Committees and the Hospitality Committee.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Elmo Finch, Sr.; daughter Kathy Finch; and her brother Franklin Perry.

She is survived by her two sons, Elmo Finch, Jr. and Franklin Finch; daughter, Janie Dupree and husband, Wayne; six grandchildren, Camden, Evan, and Conner Finch, Savannah, Alex, and Jenna Dupree all of Zebulon; Sisters, Rebecca Beddingfield of Bunn and Melrose Ferrell of Zebulon; Sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bunn and Crae Finch of Zebulon; Several nieces and nephews.

Before she left this earth, Barbara asked that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to a special memorial fund, Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church, c/o Barbara Finch Memorial Fund, 4525 Hopkins Chapel Road, Zebulon, North Carolina 27597.
