Wendy Spillane Pease

Wendy Spillane Pease died peacefully at home on May 18, 2013 in Durham, NC surrounded by her loving family. Wendy was born in Hartford, CT to the late Mildred Terrill and Julius Spillane and married her high school sweetheart, James C. Pease, on June 22, 1968. She and Jim lived in West Hartford, CT until they moved to North Carolina in 1996.

Wendy leaves behind her beloved husband, Jim, and three devoted children: Melissa Pease Scheffler and her husband Kevin Scheffler of Pittsburgh, PA; Aimee Pease Fox and her husband Matthew Fox of Arlington, MA; and Edward Barber Pease and his wife Loren Grosso Pease of Pittsboro, NC. She also leaves eight precious grandchildren: Julie, Emily & Lindsay Scheffler; Bayley & Camden Fox; and Andrew, Tyler & Bradon Pease. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Beverly S. Hunter and her husband, Stuart, of Ft. Myers Beach, Fl; and brothers, Lowell T. Spillane and his wife, Susan of Sanibel , Fl and Shelburne, VT and Robert W. Spillane and his wife, Cheryl, of Littleton, NH and Winchester, CT.

After graduating from Middlebury College, Wendy had a career as a human resources officer in the financial services sector before retiring in 1996. She served in numerous capacities throughout her life, as a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), a volunteer with Duke HomeCare and Hospice, a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship, and a willing care giver for her mother during the last years of her life. Wendy enjoyed swimming, water skiing, and playing golf with the Nifty Niner group at Chapel Hill Country Club. Above all, she cherished her faith, family, and friends and especially treasured time with her grandchildren. Wendy will be remembered for her kind words, gentle spirit and her servant’s heart.

Her family and friends will celebrate her life at a memorial service at Triangle Presbyterian Church, 5001 Tudor Place, Durham, NC 27713 on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wendy's memory to Duke HomeCare & Hospice, dhch.duhs.duke.edu/make-donation or to Triangle Presbyterian Church in support of the sponsorship of the students in Haiti.
