Would-be robber shoots man on Durham’s Railroad Street

From staff reportsMay 21, 2013

— A 19-year-old man was shot multiple times in the torso shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night after he refused to give a robber his cash and cell phone, police said Tuesday.

The victim was able to run from Railroad Street, where the incident happened, to Liberty Street to get help, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said, even though he was seriously wounded.

The man was conscious when police arrived, and he told them a man had approached him to rob him and they struggled.

He was shot during the struggle, he said.

Medics rushed the victim, whose name was not disclosed, to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

Police had not been able to compile a description of the shooter by Tuesday morning, and they asked that anyone with information about the incident call Cpl. K.L. Johnson at 919-560-4281, ext. 29118, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.

CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.
