Armed robber sought in Durham for SunTrust heist

— A man wearing a brown stocking over his head and pointing a handgun at tellers robbed a SunTrust bank branch at 3459 Hillsborough Road and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash in a bag he handed them Thursday afternoon, police said.

The robber, who prominently displayed a black, semiautomatic pistol, fired no shots, and no one was hurt in the incident.

Police said the robbery happened about 4 p.m.

The robber was described as black, about 6 feet tall, weighing about 170 pounds and wearing dark jeans and a black T-shirt with a graphic design on the back.

The man ran out the front door of the bank, police said.

It was not known if he fled on foot or in a vehicle after that.
