Duke’s Duncan named award finalist

— Duke senior Lindy Duncan has been named one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award for women’s golf, which was announced on Friday.

She notched a 71.86 stroke average, which was the seventh-best in school history, while totaling six top five, seven top 10 and nine top 20 finishes this season.

Field Hockey

Duke: Field hockey captain Devon Gagliardi has been selected by the NCAA to attend its Career in Sport Forum June 8-11 in Indianapolis, Ind.

On the field, Gagliardi has participated in 60 games in her career. During the 2012 season, she finished with 18 points, which include seven goals and four assists.

Track and Field

Duke: Senior Juliet Bottorff has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District III women’s track and field and cross country team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

St. Augustine’s: National Track & Field Coach of the Year George Williams will be a guest on national sports talk radio show From the Press Box to the Press Row between 11 a.m. and noon Saturday on campus station WAUG 750 AM and mywaug.com.

Baseball

N.C. Central: Senior Gavin Guarrera was named to the Capital One Academic All-American squad by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Guarrera topped the team with a 1.24 ERA with eight saves 24 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 29 innings pitched.

Guarrera becomes the first student-athlete at NCCU to earn Academic All-American honors at the NCAA Division I level.
