Sterling Strudwick Cates from Hillsborough graduated with high honors from The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on May 12th, 2013. Ms. Cates majored in Journalism with a minor in Spanish. She studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain during her sophomore year and interned in publicity and public relations at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles during the summer of 2012. Ms.Cates received a Buckley Public Service Scholar Award for her service to others while at Carolina. She was specifically honored for her work at UNC Memorial Hospital as the volunteer coordinator for the The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, her service to Las Guapitas, and her service to One Act. Ms.Cates served as a role model and counselor for young latino middle school girls through the organization Las Guapitas. Ms. Cates was trained as an intervention counselor to aid students who encountered interpersonal violence on campus. She was commended and awarded for her public service to all three of these groups. Ms. Cates, also, played on the UNC Women's Club Volleyball Team all four years serving as President her last two years. Ms Cates will reside in Los Angeles, California working in sports and entertainment media.
