Zebulon police charge man deposited phony State of Maryland checks

— Police have charge a man who they said deposited seven counterfeit State of Maryland Treasurer’s Office checks that were supposed to be worth almost $155,000.

Officers arrested Hilard Jayvan Hardman, 45, of 232 W. Vance St. in Zebulon on North Arendell Avenue on Friday afternoon.

According to an arrest warrant, police believe Hardman went into the SunTrust branch on North Arendell and deposited the checks into his account.

The checks’ total amount was $154,805.29, the warrant stated.

Police charged Hardman with obtaining property worth more than $100,000 by false pretenses.
