Rev. Msgr. John F. (Tim) O'Connor

Reverend Monsignor John F. (Tim) O’Connor, Pastor of Saint Luke the Evangelist Church in Raleigh, died June 9, 2013, in Raleigh. Msgr. O’Connor was born September 10, 1946, in Maspeth, New York. A graduate of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Ohio, Msgr. O’Connor was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Vincent S. Waters, March 26, 1973, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock.

Following his ordination, Msgr. O’Connor was appointed Pastor of St. Eugene Church in Wendell. Among his most recent pastoral assignments, Msgr. O’Connor served as Rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh and Pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Church in Cary, prior to his appointment as Pastor of Saint Luke Church in 2011.

In his 40 years of service in the Diocese, Msgr. O’Connor held numerous appointments, including Diocesan Consultant to Bishop F. Joseph Gossman, Dean of the Raleigh Deanery, Chair of the Presbyteral Council, Master of Ceremonies for Bishop Gossman, as well as serving on several Diocesan committees and boards.

Born to John and Betty Jean O’Connor, Msgr. O’Connor is survived by his mother and three younger brothers: Bruce, Kenneth and Kevin; and nieces and nephews, Matthew, Michelle, Megan, Brittany, Jammie, Robbie and Mike. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Kim.

The Reception of the Body will take place on Thursday June 13, 2013, at Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh at 5 pm. The Visitation will continue until 7:30 pm, when the Vigil for the Deceased will be celebrated, the Rev. Msgr. David D. Brockman, V.G., presiding. The Visitation will conclude at 8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, with the Most Rev. Michael F. Burbidge, Principal Celebrant, and the Reverend Joseph G. Vetter, Homilist. Rite of Committal will follow at Wake Memorial Park, located at 7002 Green Hope School Road in Cary.
