Charles Hermon Beddingfield, Jr

Charles Hermon Beddingfield, Jr. passed away on June 11, 2013. Funeral service will be held 2:00 Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mark White officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Beddingfield served two terms as President of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Board of Directors for several years. He was chairman of Soybean Festival in Clayton, Citizen of the Year in 1978, served on Johnston County Board of Health for 30 years, served on Board of Directors of Raleigh Rescue Mission as well as Southern National Bank and BB&T. He was a lifelong member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Clayton. He graduated from Clayton High School, attended Oak Ridge Military Institute and The UNC School of Pharmacy where he graduated in December 1944. He married Sarah Harper from Star, NC on July 1, 1945. He began his career with Walgreens in Durham and later was employed by Toms Drug Company in Wilmington, NC. In years following he joined his father at Beddingfield Drug in Clayton.

He is survived by his beloved and precious wife Sarah, son Ted Beddingfield and wife Cindy, daughter Joni Frye, grandchildren, Tara Beddingfield, Ashley Terry and Ryan Terry, sister Cherrie Baskette and special caretaker Hilda Blackmon. The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00p.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 35, Clayton, NC 27528.
