James Hill: War not a video game

Not a game

Regarding the June 14 news story “Rebels to get U.S. military aid”: Once again, we are being pulled into a conflict we surely do not understand. Apparently, we have learned little or nothing from our experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention other earlier foreign war involvement. Exactly who are these “rebels” we supposedly should be supporting? What are their goals and objectives? Is it another Sunni v. Shiite conflict?

What benefit do we gain by supporting anyone in another war which seems headed for the same nasty end? Death and destruction. I’m afraid that many of us think these events are just another violent video game that we can play without any negative consequences. We should think again.
