Carolina RailHawks rally for draw, point against Edmonton Eddies

From News ReleaseJune 17, 2013

— The Carolina RailHawks traveled to Canada to earn a 1-1 North American Soccer League draw Sunday against FC Edmonton. Cesar Elizondo again rose to the occasion and scored the tying goal during the 88th minute to give Carolina a point out of the match.

The match saw an uneventful first half, as both clubs had little problem settling down during the early minutes. Deep-lying midfielders and back lines stymied nearly all of the half’s attacks, with FC Edmonton racking up three shots and the Carolina taking one from distance. It wasn’t until FC Edmonton defender Lance Laing’s free kick that either club was close to scoring, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

The Eddies (4-4-1, 16 points) struck during the 73rd minute when Michael Cox placed an arcing shot over Akira Fitzgerald’s head.

The RailHawks (4-4-1, 16 points) will return to NASL action Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park against Minnesota United FC.
