Raleigh woman charged with murder in death of man found near Falls Lake

From staff reportsJune 17, 2013

— A 46-year-old woman was charged with murder early Monday after the body of the man with whom she shares a home was found near Falls Lake on Sunday.

Joanna Roberta Madonna was being held without bail Monday. Madonna is accused of killing Jose Manuel Perez, 64, whose body was found on Old Bayleaf Road near the reservoir about 6 a.m. Sunday.

Madonna lives at 12412 Schoolhouse St., off Wakefield Pines Drive, and property records show she owns the $464,000 home with Perez. The 2,800-square-foot house was built in 2000, records say, and Madonna and Perez bought it just over a year ago for $350,000.

Deputies deemed Perez’s death a homicide but did not say how he was killed. A section of the arrest report for listing weapons shows “knife.”

Perez was found by a man taking a walk, deputies said.

According to the arrest report, Madonna told booking officers she works as an office assistant in the Chetson Firm, a criminal law practice on West Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh.
