Anna Cleo Mangum Cope

Anna Cleo Mangum Cope, 91, of Henrico, VA, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Rosalie Mangum, Bahama, NC; two sisters, Mildred Harris and Inez Fortner, and one brother W.B. Mangum.

She was a graduate of the Watts School of Nursing, Durham Regional Hospital, NC; and attended the Appalachian University and UNC School of Public Health. As a Navy nurse, she served in World War II and The Korean Conflict, where she was assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital, Yokosuka, Japan. For many years, she resided in Isle of Palms, SC, and engaged in nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. While living in North Palm Beach, FL, she was Supervisor of the North Palm Beach Health Department, serving also as a deputized R.N. for the West Palm Beach Sheriff's Department. She was a member of the American Nursing Association, the VFW, and St. Martin's Episcopal Church, Henrico.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Valentino (Henrico); one son, Samuel (Corey) Cope Black (Richmond); one sister, Alesse M. Lauren (McLean, VA); and four grandchildren, David and Savannah Valentino, and Benjamin and Patricia Black.

A graveside memorial service will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
