Gov. Pat McCrory’s declaration of June as Solar Energy Month is a great step toward embracing renewable energy sources (“In visit to solar farm, McCrory backs subsidy,” June 5 news story).
However, taking an “all of the above” approach to energy development is concerning, as not all energy sources are created equal. For example, the consequences of offshore drilling, which the governor supports, include environmental damage and contaminated water, so we must also seriously consider the harm such actions will produce.
Investments in solar energy are a good start to stimulating the energy business, and hopefully North Carolina will continue to expand its support of sustainable, renewable energy.
