Max Adams: Outside the circle

Outside the circle

When Gov. Pat McCrory called the Moral Monday demonstrators “outsiders,” I didn’t understand why. My observation was that most of them were North Carolina residents. A survey has confirmed this to be the case.

But it all became clear when I read that he will be attending a retreat put on by the Renew North Carolina Foundation, where dinner with the governor will cost $1,000 and the whole retreat will cost $5,000 per person. So now I get it: The governor was not referring to where the demonstrators hailed from; he simply meant they are “outsiders” when compared with the “insiders” he’ll be meeting with and listening to at the retreat. It actually couldn’t be much clearer.
