Out of this world weekend for NC Symphony

CorrespondentJune 27, 2013

This seems to be sci-fi weekend for the N. C. Symphony, with two different outer space-themed concerts. Tonight, in Raleigh’s Meymandi Concert Hall, George Takei (“Mr. Sulu” from “Star Trek”) serves as a guide through selections from “Star Wars,” “Close Encounters,” “E. T.” and “Star Trek.” Jack Everly conducts (7:30 p.m. $32-$67). Saturday night finds the orchestra at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre for Gustav Holst’s “The Planets,” accompanied by NASA images and video projected in HD on a giant screen above the players. William Henry Curry conducts. (8 p.m. $33-$35). 919-733-2750 or ncsymphony.org.
