Ronald L. Wenda: No guns for thugs

No guns for thugs

I was shocked by what Rep. Michael Speciale, a Republican from New Bern, was quoted as saying in the June 27 article “Bill addresses gun rights for convicted felons.”

He said, “Why penalize someone using drugs by taking away their weapons, taking away their right to protect their families and protect themselves”. He is talking about drug users convicted multiple times of drug-use felonies.

I believe that this quote exposes the fanatical and frightening attitude that Republicans in the NCGA have about guns.

It seems that their goals are; no restrictions to purchase guns and guns allowed anywhere.

These goals are the common threads which show up in the many bills about guns being offered this session in the NCGA.

With those goals in mind, Speciale went even further to argue that even thugs convicted of drug-use felonies multiple times should be allowed to have guns.
