Willard Carpenter

Willard Carpenter, 85, 5401 Grasshopper Road passed away peacefully at his home early July 1, 2013.

He was born May 10, 1928 to the late Oma Wells and Henry Carpenter. Willard graduated from Knightdale High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. He went to work at NC State University as Director of Merchandising at the Student Supply Store retiring with 32 years of service.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 with Reverend George Fox and Reverend George Pullium officiating. Mr. Carpenter will lie in state in the church sanctuary prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends in the church sanctuary immediately following the committal service and other times at their home.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Myrtle Massengill Carpenter; daughters: Cynthia C. King and her husband David of Cary, Ann C. Rockett and her husband, Mark of Raleigh; grandchildren: Alexandra King, Justin King and Jonathan Rockett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Christine Bunn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
