— Two men face murder charges in Chatham County in the June 29 shooting death of a man after a party at a Mays Chapel Road home in the Bear Creek community, sheriff’s deputies said.

Jovon Maurice Marks, 33, of 407 Olde Towne Road in Sanford was arrested Tuesday in Lee County and charged with murder, Chatham Chief Deputy Gary Blankenship said.

Sunday, deputies had arrested Roosevelt Terell Dixon, 25, of 1027 Vance St. in Sanford and charged him murder.

Marks and Dixon were accused of fatally shooting Roger Torran Smith of 7550 Moncure Pittsboro Road in Moncure, whom deputies found dead in a car at Mays Chapel and James Goldston Road early June 29, Blankenship said.

Before deputies found Smith, they had found Dixon walking on Mays Chapel Road with a gunshot wound in his leg.

Deputies had been called to 530 Mays Chapel Road to investigate a report of gunshots.

While Dixon was being taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, deputies began searching the area and found Smith, Blankenship said.
