Richmond guard joins Campbell hoops

— Luke Moyer, a 6-foot, 170-pound guard from the University of Richmond, has signed an athletics grant-in-aid with Campbell University, head men’s basketball coach Kevin McGeehan announced on Wednesday. Moyer will be eligible to play this fall.

Baseball

N.C. State: Head coach Elliott Avent was named 2013 ABCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

In 2013, Avent guided the Wolfpack to its first 50-win season in program history and took N.C. State to its first College World Series since 1968.

Field Hockey

Duke:

Four Blue Devils have earned spots on USA Field Hockey’s Under-21 junior national team. Junior midfielder Abby Beltrani, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing, sophomore midfielder Aileen Johnson and freshman forward Heather Morris were selected to the under-21 junior national squad.

All four Blue Devils were invited to last week’s Junior National Camp in Norfolk, Va., after previously taking part in the Under-21 Women’s National Championship.

Football

Shaw: Former Bears quarterback James Stallons, who rewrote most of the passing record book in his one year at Shaw, was recently named the starting quarterback for the USA All-American Eagles in the upcoming Cancun Classic, an annual exhibition game against the University of Cancun Lions. The game will be played on August 24 at Maya Stadium in Cancun, Mexico.

Women’s Golf

Duke: Incoming freshman Yu Liu qualified for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur this week as she carded a one-over-par, 73, to earn one of 10 spots into the prestigious tournament. The 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur will be played Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
