Sylvain Guerrier Blanco

July 7, 2013

Sylvain Guerrier Blanco, 21, a longtime Triangle resident who never stopped loving life, beautiful women and a good laugh, passed away near his birthplace on the French Riviera after a fight with cancer.

Sylvain’s parents, Isabelle and Denis Blanco, formerly owned Gourmandises de France, a North Raleigh pastry shop. Sylvain's path took him from that pocket of French beauty and flavor to the French Navy and beyond.

Sylvain left the French navy after doctors discovered a rare Ewing sarcoma, but his warrior spirit was undaunted. He became an Airsoft fanatic, and with Denis fought in woodland skirmishes here and in France.

Sylvain studied at Wake Early College on WakeMed campus, but returned to France for medical treatments last summer. Former pastry shop customers, neighbors in Wake Forest's Dansforth community and owners of LaFarm and Sosta Café contributed to a gourmet bake sale that helped sustain Sylvain in Nice.

Denis, Isabelle and Sylvain's sister, Melissa, are thankful for the generosity of their Triangle friends. A memorial service was held in Nice, June 17. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

Sylvain, you’ll be remembered always. Your fighting spirit will live on. RIP.
