Arthur R. Talhelm, 71, of Raleigh, passed away on July 7, 2013 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. Art was born in Binghamton, NY on August 21, 1941 to the late Richard and Wilma Talhelm. He graduated from Chenango Valley High School and Lowell School of Business in Binghamton, NY. He served in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Donna Talhelm; children, Arlene (Scott) Bonnett of Charlotte and Kip (Kyle) Talhelm of Burlington; grandchildren, Tyler and Brooke Savage of Charlotte, Kenzie and Kenna Talhelm of Burlington. He is also survived by a sister, Marlene Scott of Ladson, SC and a sister-in-law, Nancy Greene of Exton, PA.
In 1998 Art received a heart transplant. He was very grateful for the ultimate second chance at life.
Art retired in 2006 after 40 years in the propane business. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Raleigh where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Golden Boys. He was a member of the Lake Lynn Senior Group and a faithful volunteer at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday July 13, 2013 at St. Mark’s UMC at 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
