Man accused of attempted pill theft at Fuquay-Varina pharmacy

From staff reportsJuly 12, 2013

— Police on Thursday charged a 32-year-old man who they said went into a Kerr Drugs store with a pistol last month and, according to an arrest warrant, demanded "all the 80 mg Oxycontin."

They arrested William Hank Mingin of 54 Clack Lane on one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Mingin, according to the warrant, took a semiautomatic pistol into the store at 816 N. Main St. on June 22.

The warrant estimated the value of the pills in the store at $10,000.

Three women were in the area of the prescription counter at the time, the warrant stated.

Mingin was being held Friday in lieu of $125,000 bail and was to be in court Friday.

Oxycontin is a brand name for a form of hydrocodone, which the National Institutes of Health says is a morphine-like pain reliever.
