Gene Eisen: State of regression

State of regression

Rob Christensen’s July 7 column “Tar Heel branding takes a hit” struck at the core of the damage that the current North Carolina legislature has done to our state. It really needed to be on the front page in big red letters.

I used to be proud of the progressive nature of my adopted state. Now when I speak to friends and colleagues from other states, I am embarrassed by the backward direction the legislature has taken in the funding of public schools and teachers’ salaries, on anti-abortion issues and anti-gay laws, in regressive tax laws and in its failure adequately to support the University of North Carolina system.

The best hope for our state is to defeat these legislators at the ballot box.
