Teen to study language in China

Aimee Kurtz of Raleigh was awarded a scholarship to travel to Suzhou, China, this summer to study Chinese language and culture for seven weeks.

The trip is with the State Department’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth program. The program takes place in the native culture for speakers of Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Russian and Turkish. Students receive travel, housing (usually with a host family), meals and educational and cultural activities focused on learning the language. Aimee is a rising senior at Enloe High School.
