Ned Gardner: ‘Post-racist America’

July 15, 2013

Post-racial America, indeed

The verdict is in: Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old black male minding his own business, walking at night through his father’s suburban neighborhood from a convenience store to his home with a package of Skittles in his pocket, has been found (by unanimous vote of a jury of six nonblack, caring mothers) guilty of attempted murder in an attack on the unfortunate George Zimmerman, an armed stalker.

Thanks to Zimmerman’s decisive action at the time of Martin’s criminal assault, no sentence was necessary – thus the taxpayers of Florida were saved the considerable expense of the long-term incarceration of yet another dangerous felon.

As the U.S. Supreme Court would say, welcome to post-racial America.
