Robert Garbarino, Sr.

Robert Garbarino, Sr, 78 passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 after a lengthy and progressive illness.

“Bob” served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his Navy career he worked as a service technician for his Father’s company, Boiler Feed Systems (BFS Industries), repairing pumps and various boiler room systems. He moved into a sales position within the company when his Father had health issues, and took over many of the day to day responsibilities of company management. When he decided that this was going to be his lifelong career, he enrolled in night school and completed 8 years of engineering and science coursework. Bob established a nationwide representative network and expanded the company product lines. Bob successfully orchestrated two company re-locations: First from Brooklyn, NY to West Babylon, NY in 1969 and then from West Babylon to Butner, NC in 1991. In 2008, Bob was recognized for his 55 Years of continuous service to BFS Industries. Bob would be proud to know that the company that he built is still going strong, as would his Father. The business principals that he lived by and instilled in everyone at BFS will continue to drive their success.

Bob loved the adventure of travel, and visited many different countries around the globe with his wife Marla. Bob also enjoyed boating which was one of his true passions in life. He “cruised” into his early 70’s on his 45’ Albin Trawler up and down the east coast, from the Florida Keys up through the locks in upstate New York and into Canada. You may be familiar with the saying from boat owners, “the two best days with a boat are the day you buy one and the day you sell it”. For Bob, his best days were all of the days spent on his boat, and the worst day was when he finally had to sell it.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Marla, children Pat & husband John, Bob & wife Susan, Tom & wife Karen and Diane & husband Jon, step-children Bobby and wife Ceal, Michael and wife Jeannine and Lee and wife Donna. In addition, he had 16 grand children and step-grand children. He was pre-deceased by his mother Mary, father John and sister Carol.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20th at 11:00 AM at St Bernadette Catholic Church, 804 West D St, Butner. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church in Robert’s memory.
