Durham crime sweep results in 132 arrests

From staff reportsJuly 19, 2013

— State and local law enforcement officers did a sweep through Durham this week that resulted in 132 arrests and the seizure of drugs, firearms and cash.

The Durham police and sheriff’s departments and the state Department of Public Safety announced the results of Operation Cancelled Flight this morning. The effort targeted people who had violated probation or had failed to appear in court; 34 of those arrested were probation absconders, according to the public safety department.

“Operation Cancelled Flight is a prime example of the great work that can be accomplished through the collaboration of state, county and local law enforcement agencies,” said Public Safety Secretary Kieran Shanahan in a statement.

Officers say they seized 8 firearms, $7,320 in cash and several types of illegal drugs, including more than two pounds of marijuana and about 20 marijuana plants.
