Cecelia Davis: Same-race deaths troublesome

Same-race deaths

If Trayvon Martin had been shot by a 28-year-old black man, no one outside of that community would have ever heard about it.

If Trayvon Martin had shot George Zimmerman and claimed self-defense, Revs. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and William Barber along with all their protesters would be thrilled with the “not guilty” verdict and would be singing the praises of the jury.

If the Revs. Al, Jesse, William, their followers and practically every media outlet, including The N&O, were as passionate about the much greater problem of young black men killing other young black men, perhaps the number of bodies in the streets would decrease.

Apparently it’s worth their time and yours only if it involves someone of a different race.
