Woman killed by train near Burlington station

A woman was struck and killed by a passenger train near the Burlington station on Friday evening.

Burlington police said a southbound Amtrak train, which was traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte, was slowing and approaching the depot when it hit the woman, according to The Burlington Times-News.

Passengers leaving the train in Burlington had to wait about an hour before the train progressed from the site of the collision and the station, the newspaper reported.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
