Judith Wegner: Boxill’s ethics unquestioned

Boxill ethical

In response to your front page story of July 21 (“UNC faculty leader pushed rewrite to keep NCAA away”), focusing on the work of UNC-Chapel Hill Faculty Council Chairman Jan Boxill: I am a longtime member of the UNC faculty and served as chair of the UNC-Chapel Hill faculty from 2003-06.

I was surprised and disappointed by the treatment accorded Boxill in your article. She has done a superlative job in helping the faculty navigate many challenges throughout her service on the faculty as well as during her term as chair. Anyone who has worked with her knows that she has the highest standards of ethics and is committed to working through the many challenging problems we have faced in recent months. She does so by keeping a calm head, speaking with accuracy and clarity and avoiding hearsay and innuendo.
