Cary police officer resigns after DWI charges

From staff reportsJuly 29, 2013

— A veteran Cary police officer resigned from the department Thursday, hours after she was charged with driving while intoxicated west of downtown Raleigh.

Former Cary Senior Officer Tiffany Dawn Silsbee, 31, of Raleigh, is accused of sideswiping four parked cars while driving her 2005 Honda on Boylan Avenue Thursday just after 1:30 a.m.

The Honda finally stopped due to “equipment failure,” according to a police accident report made public Monday. Investigating officer S.T. Simpson determined that Silsbee was intoxicated after a breathalyzer test indicated her blood alcohol limit was .09, just above the legal alcohol limit of .08, according to the accident report.

Silsbee’s Honda struck a 2013 Chevrolet, a 2006 Chevrolet, a 2004 Nissan and a 2010 Acura, according to the accident report.

Silsbee was hired by the police department in January 2005.

She submitted her resignation Thursday afternoon, according to town spokeswoman Deanna Boone.
