— ALEIGH Triangle residents looking for a tropical escape this winter can now plan to fly non-stop from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Nassau, Bahamas, starting in December.

Delta Air Lines will offer weekly non-stop service between RDU and Nassau beginning Dec. 21. The new service will be offered year-round each Saturday aboard a CRJ-900 aircraft with up to 90 seats.

The flight to Nassau will leave RDU at 2:50 p.m., arriving at Nassau at 4:10 p.m. The homeward flight will leave Nassau at 11:40 a.m. and land at RDU at 2:10 p.m.

Two other airlines, BahamasAir and Vision Airlines, previously offered a non-stop service to Freeport, Bahamas, between 2011 and 2012 but “made a business decision to terminate the flight,” said RDU spokesman Andrew Sawyer.

RDU offers non-stop international flights to three other locations. American Airlines offers a once-daily flight to London; Air Canada offers a three daily flights to Toronto; and Delta and United Airlines offer seasonal weekly flights to Cancun, Mexico, during the winter.
