Roger Joseph: Simpler times

Basic happiness

I read the July 30 news article, “Cost of diapers puts many in a bind,” and realized how fortunate my wife and I were when we started out and when we had our first child.

Though we could have been considered poor according to our income, we did not have diaper expense because we had cloth diapers that we washed out (many times by hand). We also didn’t have expenses for cable TV, cell phones, computers, packaged frozen dinners and fast food restaurants among many other things that are absolutely essential today.

Though we did not have any government benefits, we did have ID cards and were able to find time to vote even though there was no early voting. Boy, were we lucky!
